| The Septentrian Guard | ||
Legend: AC = Armoured Combat,
To protect Septentria in times of war, Aedan and Caffa formed the Septentrian Archery Corps and the Septentrian Guard. The Guard counted the Eoforwic City Militia amongst its numbers, for at that time Eoforwic was the home of Aedan and Caffa.
The Prince's Septentrian Guard
"The Prince's Septentrian Guard was established by Reynard Prince of Ealdormere
and King of the Middle at the instigation of James Routledge (formerly James
Schoen MacAndrews) and Grimwulf the Hairy with Cospatric of Annan Water as a
third founder member. Anthea Talbot and Grimwulf the Hairy donated the Mess
Silver. Sylard of Eagleshaven donated the pike points. Artair mac Artair of
Orkney donated the spear shafts. James Routledge was appointed Captain,
Grimwulf
The Guard was modelled on the King of France's Scottish and Irish Guards. The Guard was recruited from Septentrians, but was an Ealdormerean not a Septentrian institution. The Guard generally deployed eight guardsmen with (razor-sharp) spears doing 16th Century pike drill (though sometimes for comic effect the Guard used the Taman Guards rifle drill from the Kremlin); and when not actually guarding the Guard made a point of putting out a sumptuous lunch, generally feeding the king and queen as well as the Guard. Routledge received the Purple Fret in part for his captaincy of the Guard. Many of the Prince's Septentrian Guard drifted into the Trayned Bandes of London and out of the SCA around the end of the Crown Principality period. Indeed, the staff of the Guard were heavily involved in creating the ceremonial around the installation of the first Prince and Princess of Ealdormere."

The Isengesitha were the oath-bound warriors of Septentria, and members of the Barony's fyrd (army). Members of the Isengesitha (which means Iron Companions) included scouts, armoured combat fighters and archers. They were founded by Cynred Thegn and Baroness Gaerwen (fourth Baron and Fifth Baroness of Septentria) around AS 34.
When one swears to the Isengesitha they were bound for a year and a day, and were given an armband crafted by the hands of the Thegn. Both he and the Baroness placed it on their arms before presenting it to the new fyrdman (or fyrdwoman). The Thegn then clasped the left forearm of the newest Companion in a show of trust, as by using his left hand he had given up the use of his shield, his only defence against an attack.
Below is a list of all those who at one time or another served the Barony of Septentria, Cynred and Gaerwen as an Isengesithr.
