Relics, Artifacts and Regalia of Septentria

On this page are pictures and information on various Septentrian relics, artifacts and regalia. Our definition of each are as follows:

Relic: An important item from Septentria's past that is often unseen for years at a time. These can include coronets, weapons or other items once used or worn by famous Septentrians.

Artifact: A personal item of Septentrian importance. It may look like regalia but it isn't, as it belongs to a past or present Baron or Baroness.

Regalia: Any item that belongs to the barony and is passed down from one coronet to another.

The COPPER arm rings of the Iron Companions.

When an Iron Companion retires he hands in his iron arm ring and is given a copper one in its stead. This ring is for that individual to keep, to remind them of the service they gave to their barony, and to honour them for it.

The Septentrian triptych (or reliquary).

This triptych details the story of how once demons infested the lands of Septentria. To defeat them Gaerwen created a stone from her body and, using a slingshot woven from Cynred's beard hair, managed to defeat the infernal foes.

The triptych indeed does contain Gaerwen's bodily stone and Cynred's beard hair. This was unveiled at Septentrian 12th Night, Janaury 2002 in Eoforwic.

This shield was once a relic, but at Snowed Inn II: The Baronial Investiture Edition (February AS 37), Baron Siegfried Brandbeorn and Lord Hereward the Far-Dweller presented it to Their new Excellencies of Septentria, Corwyn and Domhnail. The good lords had repaired and repainted the shield and made it once again functional.

The Collar of the (Armoured Combat) Champion of Septentria.

Commisioned by Adrielle in AS 32 or 33. It is set with carnelions, which were also mounted on Adrielle's coronet at the time. The Septentrian device graces the front of the collar, while Septentria is spelled out on the back. Small plates bearing various charges are also featured; these charges represent past Champions. (Sir Mordain Blackcloak, who was once Baroness Gillian's champion, has his device represented on this collar though he never actually wore it.) To date, Lord Rhys ap Bledri and Lady Seonag nic Thomais have worn the collar.

Bardic Ring.

Each time a Bard of Septentria is appointed, that bard is given a ring to wear. Sometimes this may be the same ring the previous bard wore, sometimes it is a new ring. From time to time rings are retired and new rings are introduced. When there are more than one bard of Septentria at a time (as was the case with Colyne stewart and Thorfinna gra'feldr) there are more than one bardic ring.

The ring pictured to the left was the one worn by Thorfinna gra'feldr during her tenure as bard (January AS 36 - February AS 37). It was retired when Baron Cynred and Baroness Gaerwen stepped down.

A Septentrian banner with Gaelic legend.

This historian could not find the word 'freastal' in any Gaelic dictionaries, but did find 'freasdal', which means "serving, attending, waiting on". 'I' means "she, her, it" and 'onoir' means "honour, respect, dignity".

Crafted by: Lord <later Master> Master Naon na Chruitre (of loved memory) for Aedan and Kaffa. A sister-banner was made for the Barony of Skraeling Althing but is in private hands and is no longer displayed.

The IRON arm rings of the Iron Companions.

When someone pledges to the Iron Companions they receive an iron arm ring to mark them as a member of Septentria's armed forces. When an Iron Companion reitres they enscribe their name inside their ring and give it back to the barona nd baroness. In this way their arm ring is a record of the army's history, and the new bvearer of each arm ring can see all those who bore it before.

One of the Septentrian stones, which were made for Ieuan and Adrielle.

These stones mark foreign soil as Septentrian soil (much like modern embassies are seen to be the sovereign soil of the sponsoring nation).

Baroness Gaerwen always slept on one of the stones, so she would be sleeping on Septentrian soil when in a foreign land.
